About Pahokee, FL
Pahokee is a small city in southeast Florida located on the shores of Lake Okeechobee in Palm Beach County.
The town is known for its agriculture, with a focus on sugar cane, location on the shores of Lake Okeechobee, and strong football program at the local Pahokee High School.
Pahokee’s history revolved mostly around farming, as the drained portion of the Everglades that it occupies was renowned for its rich soil, producing citrus, sugar cane, corn, and other vegetables throughout the year. Pahokee experienced a boom in the early 20th century, becoming famous as a source for winter vegetables.
Today, agriculture is increasingly taking a backseat to tourism focused on the lake, with visitors coming to experience its marina, campgrounds, and the scenic trail that runs around the edge of Lake Okeechobee. Pahokee’s population is approximately 6,000 people, with its central core located at the intersections of Main Street, Bacom Point Road, Lake Avenue, and Barack Obama Boulevard.
Neighboring communities include Canal Point to the north, and Belle Glade to the south. Palm Beach and the Atlantic shore is around 1 hour away to the east.
