About Pahokee, Florida

Pahokee is a small city in southeast Florida located on the shores of Lake Okeechobee in Palm Beach County.

The town is known for its agriculture, with a focus on sugar cane, location on the shores of Lake Okeechobee, and strong football program at the local Pahokee High School.

Pahokee’s history revolved mostly around farming, as the drained portion of the Everglades that it occupies was renowned for its rich soil, producing citrus, sugar cane, corn, and other vegetables throughout the year. Pahokee experienced a boom in the early 20th century, becoming famous as a source for winter vegetables.

Today, agriculture is increasingly taking a backseat to tourism focused on the lake, with visitors coming to experience its marina, campgrounds, and the scenic trail that runs around the edge of Lake Okeechobee. Pahokee’s population is approximately 6,000 people, with its central core located at the intersections of Main Street, Bacom Point Road, Lake Avenue, and Barack Obama Boulevard.

Neighboring communities include Canal Point to the north, and Belle Glade to the south. Palm Beach and the Atlantic shore is around 1 hour away to the east.

These often have shutters or awnings over sash windows, although more modern-styled homes have no adornments on the windows. Parking is either driveway or single-attached, with streets wide enough for on street parking as well.

Larger homes and properties are arranged along the lake shore for those who want to enjoy the water views. These homes often feature pools, carriage drives, multiple buildings on the same property, and ample lot spaces for storage, development, and gardening. Many of these properties comfortable ranchers and more conventional single-family homes surrounded by mature trees and tall palms.
