Palm Beach County Information
Palm Beach County is situated in southeast Florida between Broward County to the south and Martin County to the north. Hendry County lies to the west.
Covering some 2,400 square miles, Palm Beach County includes almost 50 miles of beautiful Atlantic coastline, as well as a significant portion of the Lake Okeechobee coastline at the county’s northwest corner. Between these two coastlines are vast areas of farmland, wildlife preserves, suburbs, and cities, more or less in that order from west to east.
The urban portion of Palm Beach County runs continuously from north to south through the eastern quarter. This urban area forms part of the Miami Metro.
Palm Beach County gets its name from the city of West Palm Beach, which is also the county seat. Other large towns on the Atlantic coast include Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth, and Palm Beach Gardens. Other features along the Atlantic coast are the geographic features like barrier islands, inlets, and the Intracoastal Waterway.
Moving west, the county becomes more suburban, mixed with farms and large wilderness areas, most of which are concentrated in the north and south. The western rural area includes towns like Belle Glade, South Bay, and Pahokee, and is the state’s most productive agricultural area, focusing on nursery plants, vegetables, and sugar cane.
Main transit through Palm Beach County is via the I-95 Highway (running north to south along the coast) and the U.S. Highways 98 and 27, connecting to towns along Lake Okeechobee.
