Pompano Beach is a city located in Broward County on Florida’s far southwest coast. It lies between Fort Lauderdale (to the south) and Boca Raton (to the north). Pompano Beach’s close neighbors include Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, North Lauderdale, Margate, Coconut Creek, Pompano Beach Highlands, Deerfield Beach, and Lighthouse Point.
Transport via car through Pompano Beach is mainly via the U.S. Highway Route 1 and the I-95 Interstate Highway. There’s also the Pompano Beach Airpark for air travel, and of course the numerous opportunities for travel by boat.
Pompano Beach has a wide mix of areas, from impressive canal communities with large luxury homes, to light industrial and commercial zones in its northwestern quarter.
Pompano Beach, Broward County Real Estate
There are three main housing or home types in Pompano Beach. First, there are the many hotel and condo buildings, mostly along the eastern shores overlooking the ocean. These properties make great rental or income investments, doubling as a holiday destination for those who want to enjoy the ocean views and warm sands on a seasonal basis. And of course, they include a range of resort-style amenities right in the same building.
Next, there are the luxury homes, usually built around the private country clubs and canals of the inner waterways. These large homes feature lanai-covered pools, private docks, spas, a range of styles hovering mostly around the Florida coastal style, blending modernist and Colonial-inspired elements.
Next, there are the well-established interior neighborhoods, with grid-like streets lined with mature trees and understated cottages. These homes have a range of stylistic elements, but are typically side gabled, single-level, detached parking, and with some minimal-traditional details.
Ultimately, the real estate market in Pompano Beach runs the gamut of what you can expect in the popular south eastern Florida scene, combined with the many local attractions that set Pompano Beach apart from the competition.
Things to Do in Pompano Beach, Florida
Like most of the exciting and vibrant cities along southeast Florida’s continuous urban stretch, Pompano Beach has a tremendous mix of tropical beauty, marine recreation, luxurious resorts, and golf courses.
Starting at the easternmost edge, the barrier island along the Atlantic coast is home to miles of pristine beaches, flanked by resort hotels and tall condo buildings. These areas are complete with entertainment venues, restaurants, shopping, and other beachside attractions.
The waters to the east and west provide access to an aquatic playground, known for its excellent fishing, boating, and diving opportunities. In fact, just offshore of Pompano Beach is the Shipwreck Park, giving the area the title of “wreck capital of Florida”. Of course, local dive schools and tours will provide everything you need to enjoy these underwater sights. There’s even a living coral reef just offshore.
Pompano beach has an impressive neighborhood park system, with sports facilities and open spaces. Most notable among these is the Pompano Community Park, with 6 ballparks, tennis courts, a large pool, and more. There are also a number of golf courses, like the Pompano Beach Municipal Course and Conte’s Palm-Aire Golf Academy.
Pompano Beach is a great city for regular events and festivals. Some annual events on the Pompano Beach calendar include:
-
Pompano Beach Seafood Festival - held over three days in April, this event is a must-see for live music and, of course, a lot of seafood.
-
Pompano Beach Fishing Rodeo - a combination boat parade and fishing competition, hundreds of anglers participate in this event to take on some of the local game fish.
-
Holiday Boat Parade - This event is held in December and is a testament to the area’s strong boating traditions and culture.
Given this impressive list of attractions, it’s not surprising that Pompano Beach is called “The Heart of the Gold Coast”.
