It was founded in the 1950s as a planned community centered on the Tequesta Country Club - it was named after the Tequesta people.
Located along U.S. Highway 1, Tequesta is the northernmost municipality in the South Florida-Miami metropolitan area. Downtown Miami is about a 2 hour drive via Florida’s Turnpike, while Port St. Lucie is about a 45 minute drive north.
