About Palm Beach, FL

Palm Beach is a town located on Florida’s southeast Atlantic coast extending approximately 12.15 miles along a narrow barrier island. The barrier island itself is much longer, but the town of Palm Beach gives way to South Palm Beach at its southern border. The northern boundary of Palm Beach is the Palm Beach Inlet, across which is Singer Island and the community of Palm Beach Shores.

To the west is the Intracoastal Waterway (also known as Lake Worth Lagoon) and beyond that the mainland communities of Mangonia Park, West Palm Beach, and Lake Worth Beach. The eastern boundary of Palm Beach consists of the Atlantic shore, a long continuous sandy beach.

The town also includes a few islands along its interior coastline.

There are four access roads to Palm Beach. From north to south these are the Flagler Memorial Bridge, Royal Park Bridge, Bingham Island Bridge, and Lake Avenue Bridge. The eastern shore is also dotted with docks, marinas, and boat launches, providing another system of access and transport throughout the area.

Most of Palm Beach is residential, with smaller portions for hotels, businesses, resorts, and natural preserves. Given the relatively small space and highly desirable location, Palm Beach is now completely built out, with little possibility of expansion.

Palm Beach, Florida Real Estate

Most of the private real estate available on Palm Beach consists of large and luxurious homes - some of the most expensive and prestigious in Florida. These homes come in a range of custom styles, from the ultra-modern to Mediterranean-inspired colonial estates, to Romanesque or classically-inspired villas.

Luxury features abound, like large pools with sunbathing areas, spas, tennis courts, sunken gardens, and numerous outbuildings for accommodation, friends, and entertainment.

Homes in Palm Beach’s southern neighborhoods are arguably the largest and most impressive, with the Spanish-colonial style being particularly popular. Homes further north  are more modest, although still grand by most standards, with a mix of understated modern and classic Floridian styles, including low-hipped bungalows and ranchers, neatly tucked away between tall hedges and taller palm trees. Some of the homes in this area blend other styles, including Shingle and Colonial, with tall sash windows, exterior shutters, and other rustic features.

Things To Do In Palm Beach, Florida

Palm Beach is a community renowned and globally recognized for its luxurious amenities and attractions, including 5-star resorts, beautiful architecture, historic landmarks, and stunning scenery and weather.

This reputation extends back to the early 20th century when wealthy industrialist Henry Flagler pioneered a rail line through the area, building hotels and resorts in his wake. Today, Flagler’s former residence serves as the Henry Flagler Museum.

The entire area bears marks of Flagler’s influence and Gilded Age he lived in, with many buildings from the time preserved in Palm Beach’s more historic areas.

Palm Beach’s Worth Avenue is a destination for boutique shopping, including up-market clothing stores and unique, well-regarded restaurants. Galleries and gourmet restaurants dot the area around Worth Avenue, bringing back visitors time and time again. For another gastric-related experience, the annual Palm Beach Food & Wine Festival is a must-see.

Other attractions and points of interest in Palm Beach include:

And the entire length of the city has - on its eastern side - a sandy beach with various points of public access. A great place to swim or sunbathe.

Despite the high-degree of development in Palm Beach, there is still some space for nature on Bingham, Fishermen’s, and Hunter’s Islands. These preserves act as rookeries where some of Florida’s beautiful bird species nest and live.
